Week Notes- 21st March 25

Week Note 21st March 25
In amongst the usual flurry of a working week I always like to pick up the Golden Nuggets that appear amongst the fast-flowing river of week and the Theme that emerges this week is COLLOBORATION
A meeting with Guidance at Mackie is securing our support for the pupils and I can foresee this will be the start of a very useful collaboration between our Bureau and the Academy.
On the same vein we heard from Valeria Ragni, Centre Manager a Project called Worker Support Centre | “The Worker Support Centre (WSC) aims to prevent labour abuse and exploitation for marginalised and isolated workers. We support workers to secure and advance workplace rights and help build worker power so that people can make change happen in their workplaces and in policy.”
As her and her colleague detailed the work, they did with the Staff team this week you could have heard a pin drop, and we could have listened to them all day. For the dual reason of the great vulnerability of the clients they support and the blessing they are in operation to support this sector.
The Outreach Caseworker originally worked on English and Scottish farms picking soft fruit and a pack house under the Seasonal Worker visa scheme. She has a Master’s in TEFL and over ten-year experience working and teaching at agricultural college as an interpreter and translator for businesses and individuals. She speaks fluent English, Ukrainian, Russian, and Hungarian. She is in the perfect position to connect with the seasonal workers who are often operating in inhumane conditions with no access to support.
Naturally a wish to support arose in the Team and we will be looking at this collaboration.
This again highlights to me how the impact of direct delivery from persons delivering the work just conveys so much more than any website or Teams meeting can provide.
Lastly, I was so humbled to see the feedback from a Team in a neighbouring Bureau that are receiving the support of a very experienced and competent manager. The fact the Staff team feel valued and supported for the first time in years is such a blessing and testimony to the impact of positive human interaction. This will only benefit them and the clients they support- Thanks to that Colleague for her untiring work in what is often a thankless situation with many challenges, but she has created untold good that will only continue.
That is why many of us work in the Third Sector- fuelled by the passion to make a difference.
